Violation of the ∆I=1/2 rule in the nonmesonic weak decay of hypernuclei

چکیده
Violations of the ∆I=1/2 rule are investigated in the nonmesonic weak hypernuclear decay using a weak ΛN→NN transition potential based on meson exchange. While the weak ∆I=3/2 couplings of baryons to pseudoscalar mesons are known to be very small, the analogous couplings of baryons to vector mesons are not known experimentally. These couplings have been evaluated using the factorization approximation and are found to produce potentially significant changes in the predictions for hypernuclear decay observables in the case of 12 Λ C. Within the uncertainties of the factorization approximation we find that the proton-induced rate is affected by at most 10%, while the e-mail address: [email protected]

Nonmesonic Weak Decay of Light Hypernuclei with Coherent Σ Mixing
Nonmesonic weak decays of the A = 4, and 5 hypernuclei are studied. The short range parts of the hyperon-nucleon weak interactions are described by the direct quark (DQ) weak transition potential, while the longer range interactions are given by the π and K meson exchange processes. Virtual Σ mixings of the coherent type are found to give significant effects on the decay rates of 4ΛHe. A large ...

Low energy π emission in hypernuclear weak decays is studied in the soft pion limit. It is found that the π decay amplitude is dominated by the ∆I = 3/2 part of nonmesonic weak decays according to the soft pion theorem. The ratios, R(π/soft π−), for light hypernuclei are estimated in the direct quark mechanism, which predicts violation of the ∆I = 1/2 rule, and found to be about 1/3 for 4ΛHe. ∗...
متن کاملNonmesonic decay of the Λ-hyperon in hypernuclei produced by p+Au collisions
The lifetime of the Λ-hyperon for the nonmesonic decay ΛN → NN has been determined by a measurement at COSY Jülich of the delayed fission of heavy hypernuclei produced in proton Au collisions at Tp=1.9 GeV. It is found that heavy hypernuclei with mass numbers A≈(180±5) and atomic numbers Z≈(74±2) fission with a lifetime τΛ=130 ± 13(stat.) ± 15(syst.) ps. This value together with the results obt...

The nonmesonic weak decay of Λ-hypernuclei was studied in Ref. [1] on the basis of a one-meson-exchange model where the ∆I=1/2 rule was enforced. That calculation lead to good agreement with the experimental data for some of the observables, such as the total decay rate. However, the result is very different for the ratio between the neutron and proton induced decays, Γ n /Γ p , for which the c...
متن کاملModels of the Nonmesonic Weak Decay
I review the current status of understanding the mechanism of the nonmesonic weak decays (NMWD) of hypernuclei. Long standing problem on the Γnn/Γpn ratio has been solved by considering short-range weak interactions properly. This leaves a few remaining problems, such as the asymmetry of the emitted proton with respect to the Λ polarization and validity of the ∆I = 1/2 in the nonmesonic weak de...
